Empowering Our Community: Join the Substance Use Disorder Community Forum and Naloxone Training in Biddeford
Substance use disorder continues to be a pressing issue that affects the lives of many individuals in our community. It demands our attention, understanding, and action.
That's why I am reaching out to you today to invite you to an essential event: the Substance Use Disorder Community Forum and Naloxone Training in Biddeford. This event is hosted by the Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition and generously sponsored by the Rotary Club of Biddeford & Saco.
On Thursday, June 15th at 6pm, we will gather at the J. Richard Martin Community Center to engage in an open and constructive dialogue about substance use disorder. The goal of this forum is to increase awareness and knowledge surrounding substance use disorder and its prevalence in our community.
By attending, you will have the opportunity to learn how to effectively respond to overdose situations and acquire the life-saving tool, Naloxone. Our esteemed panelists will represent a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. The panelists include individuals in active recovery, social workers, service providers, members of law enforcement, and a family member who has tragically lost a loved one to an overdose. Their valuable perspectives will shed light on the multifaceted nature of substance use disorder, offering unique insights into the complexities of the issue.
During this Thursday’s forum and training, you will have the chance to engage directly with these panel members, addressing any questions or concerns you may have.
As we gather for this vital forum and training, let's acknowledge the magnitude of the situation at hand. According to a joint report from the Maine Office of the Attorney General and the Office of Behavioral Health, in 2022 there were a staggering 10,110 reported overdoses in Maine, including 716 suspected or confirmed deaths. While the survival rate over the year was nearly 93%, it is devastating to realize that so many did not get another chance at recovery. This underscores the significance of equipping community members with the knowledge and resources to respond effectively to overdose situations, ultimately saving lives.
The Substance Use Disorder Community Forum and Naloxone Training is not just another event; it is a crucial step towards creating a well-informed and empowered community. By attending, you will gain knowledge and skills that can make a difference in the lives of those affected by substance use. Recognizing the signs of overdose and learning how to respond effectively are essential skills that can save lives.
We understand that discussing substance use disorder can sometimes evoke biases and misconceptions. However, our panelists are prepared to address any concerns that may arise. We encourage everyone to approach this event with an open mind, ready to engage in meaningful conversations that promote understanding and empathy.
Thank you for your support, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Together, we can bring about positive change and offer hope to those affected by substance use disorder. Remember, those who are no longer with us don't have a second chance at recovery. Let's do everything we can to prevent further loss and support those along their recovery journey.
