A woman faces criminal charges after allegedly stealing an ambulance in Biddeford.

The Biddeford Regional Communication Center (BRCC) received a telephone call from Northeast Ambulance on April 17 reporting that one of its ambulances had been stolen from the hospital in Biddeford, according to a press release from the Biddeford Police Department.

Northeast Ambulance had an active tracking device on the stolen ambulance and was able to provide police live updates on the vehicle’s location. The stolen vehicle was determined to be traveling through Buxton, and the caller from Northeast Ambulance was transferred to the Buxton Police Department dispatch center, according to the press release.

Shortly after the phone call, the Biddeford Police Department learned that police in Buxton had located the stolen ambulance and conducted a traffic stop. Buxton police officers detained the suspect, Crystal Zahn, and waited for Biddeford police officers to arrive. Zahn was taken to the Biddeford Police Department for booking, and the ambulance was returned to its rightful owner, according to the press release. She was transported to York County Jail and later released.

Zahn was charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer (Class B) and Theft by Unauthorized Use of Property (Class D).
