SACO — A new bakery is opening in Pepperell Square this weekend.

Sweet Sunrise at 15 Pepperell St. is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For the nearly 1,000 people who follow Sweet Sunrise on Facebook, this is sweet news. Heidi Paulette, owner of the new bakery, has been baking custom-order cakes from her home for a few years prior to the opening of the Pepperell Square bakery.

Paulette’s built up a loyal customer base and frequently posts drool-worthy photos of her creations – cakes that don’t skimp on the butter cream frosting, cakes embellished with peanut butter frosting and peanut butter cups or Oreo frosting and crushed cookies, fruit pies and creamy slabs of fudge.

Paulette took a cake decorating class in 2012 and found she really enjoyed it, and discovered she liked baking as well.

“Once I started doing it I loved it,” she said. “I loved the creativity, and it taste good – so you can’t beat that.

Paulette has made a wide variety of custom designs from a whimsical unicorn birthday cake to a formal wedding cake decorated with frosting flowers.

One of her favorite creations was a cake she made for a Thornton Academy hockey player. The cake design included three disc-shaped cakes stacked and decorated like hockey pucks, and cake shaped into two ice skates on top of a cake decorated to look like an ice rink.

Sweet Sunrise will feature many types of cakes, including a weekly special, and unique creations like breakfast cupcakes, which will be decorated with bacon and tiny pancakes.

“There will be plenty of variety,” said Paulette.

The bakery will also sell cupcakes, cake pops, and the popular four-inch mini cakes.

“They’re good for two people, or just one person, depending on how much you want to indulge,” said Paulette.

Other items will include fudge, cookie cakes, and pies.

Sweet Sunrise hours are set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, check out Sweet Sunrise on Facebook.
