Sherman's to open bookstore in Saco
The oldest bookstore in the state will be opening a shop in Saco this year.
Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shops will be opening a bookstore next to Shaw's in the Saco Valley Shopping Center, 4 Scammon St., in April or May, said Sherman’s owner Jeff Curtis in an email.
Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shops currently has nine bookstores with locations in Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor, Freeport, Bar Harbor, Portland, Rockland, Topsham, Windham and Falmouth. All nine stores are open year-round, seven days a week, according to the company’s website.
“We excel at customer service and our staff in each store will be more than happy to help you find the right book,” states the Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop website.
Curtis said Sherman’s older stores are in downtown locations and the newer ones are in shopping centers.
“We love the Saco Valley Shopping Center because it offers the best of both: an easy walk from Main Street and plenty of convenient parking out front,” said Curtis.
Sherman’s was founded in Bar Harbor in 1886 by William Sherman. Sherman’s Maine Cost Book Shops, according to Independent Book Review, is one of the 10 oldest bookstores in the country.
