A Saco man was recently charged with theft after allegedly stealing an ATM in Westbrook.

“In something you only think you see on TV, an ATM was stolen from a business during the middle of a busy weekday,” said Westbrook police in a Facebook post on Monday morning.

An investigation led police to a home in Saco, where a search warrant was executed, according to the statement. Police found some of the money that was allegedly stolen along with tools used in the reported crime.

Maxwell Juvet, a 38, of Saco, was charged with Felony Theft, along with Possession of Burglar’s Tools in connection with the reported theft, said police.

Police detectives credited the help of the public and area businesses with providing evidence to help solve this and other recent cases.

According to Maine Criminal Code, a person is guilty of possession or transfer of burglar’s tools if that person:

“Possesses or makes any tool, implement, instrument or other article that is adapted, designed or commonly used for advancing or facilitating crimes involving unlawful entry into property or crimes involving forcible breaking of safes or other containers or depositories of property, including, but not limited to, an electronic device used as a code grabber or a master key designed to fit more than one lock, with intent to use such tool, implement, instrument or other article to commit any such criminal offense.”
