Ethan Weld Alcorn, 59, of Saco, has announced his candidacy for U.S. House of Representatives for Maine's 1st district.

Alcorn is an unenrolled, non-partisan candidate, and said in a press release he has “very simple and straightforward views to fix straightforward problems.” He said he has the commonsense and practical solutions that are needed, which he can give by bringing his business and real-world experience to the table.

He will run against incumbent Democrat Chellie Pingree and Republican Ronald Russell in the November election.

Alcorn said he was born and raised in Portland, spent summers on Vinalhaven, and lived in Norway, Maine, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Biddeford, and South Hiram. After living in Minnesota he moved to Saco, he said.

A former massage therapist, Alcorn also worked for a non-profit in Lewiston assisting the Hispanic community and translating when needed. He currently owns a landscaping company.

Alcorn said he has a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, History and Spanish From the University of Arizona and a certificate of massage therapy from Florida School of Natural Health.

This is not Alcorn’s first run for office. In 2018, he ran for governor but said he lacked the skills and knowledge to run a good campaign. In 2020, he was on the list as a presidential candidate but said, “lockdowns prevented running and he was relegated to joining lawsuits against states for ballot access (unfair signature requirements), on the basis of the 1st and 14th amendments (right to petition government and equal protection under the law) and unconstitutional federal restrictions, etc.”

In 2021 Alcorn ran for school board in Saco and lost by 68 votes. In 2022 he attempted to run for governor again, but only got 3,400 out of the 4,000 signatures needed, due to time constraints, he said.
