Police identify person who died in Saco car crash

Saco police have identified the person who died in a fatal car accident on Route One on Thursday afternoon.
Saco emergency dispatchers received reports of a car crash involving an SUV and a dump truck around 977 Portland Road (Route One) at 3 p.m. on June 11, according to a press release from the Saco Police Department.
The Saco Police Department and Saco Fire/Rescue responded promptly to the scene. Preliminary investigations based on witness statements and evidence gathered indicate that a gray 2021 Ford Explorer traveling southbound crossed the center line near Waterfall Drive, striking a black 2021 Chevy Tahoe, according to police.
The Ford Explorer then continued traveling south in the northbound lanes for about another 950 feet before colliding into a blue 2004 Volvo dump truck, according to police.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, David Girard, 80, of Hollis was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was Felipe Periana, 49, of Westbrook. The driver of the dump truck was Kenneth Spiller, 69, of Gorham.
The Kennebunk Police Department, York County Sherriff’s Office, and Windham Police Department Crash Investigation Unit and The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit are assisting in the investigation.
