Saco public safety personnel responded to a fatal car accident on Route One on Thursday afternoon.
Saco emergency dispatchers received reports of a car crash involving an SUV and a dump truck around 977 Portland Road (Route One) at 3 p.m. on June 11, according to a press release from the Saco Police Department.
The Saco Police Department and Saco Fire/Rescue responded promptly to the scene. Preliminary investigations based on witness statements and evidence gathered indicate that a gray 2021 Ford Explorer traveling southbound crossed the center line near Waterfall Drive, striking a black 2021 Chevy Tahoe, according to police.
The Ford Explorer then continued traveling south in the northbound lanes for about another 950 feet before colliding into a blue 2004 Volvo dump truck, according to police.
The driver of the Ford Explorer was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the press release. Police are withholding the deceased person’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
The Kennebunk Police Department, York County Sherriff’s Office, and Windham Police Department Crash Investigation Unit were reconstructing the accident to determine the precise sequence of events, according to the police. The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit was called in to assist with the investigation because a commercial dump truck was involved.
