OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Handmade quilts from the Pine Point Quilters are on display this month at the Libby Memorial Library, 27 Staples St., Old Orchard Beach.

Pine Point Quilters is a division of Pine Tree Quilters Guild, Inc. – Maine’s non-profit state quilting guild with more than 1800 members in 67 chapters.

Locally, the Pine Point Quilters hail from Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough, Saco and surrounding towns. There are life-long quilters, sew-ers of all levels and lots of newbies. The group shares a love of quilting across many mediums – cotton to wool, hand-piecing and machine, slow methods (like Sashiko) to Quilt in a Day.

Established in 2008, Pine Point Quilters strives to bring Maine quilters and enthusiasts together in fellowship and sharing. The group works to advance the appreciation of quilts, old and new; promote knowledge and education in techniques of quilting and support the community through quilting projects.

Pine Point Quilters meets three times a month and offers Open Sew Sessions and retreats regularly to learn new techniques and share ideas. The group promotes its love of quilting and benefits the community through workshops and chapter activities, educational programs and community activities and donate many quilts (and quilted items) to local hospitals and non-profits each year.

The quilters hope the display graces your visual senses and encourage you to try this wonderful art form. New members are always welcome. If you would like more information about our group, contact President Leslie Morrill at lmorrill1953@gmail.com.
