Local Flavor: Ice Cream pop-up at Garside's in Saco

Summer is long over, but for one magical day in December, you can get ice cream at Garside’s Ice Cream in Saco.

Garside’s Ice Cream, located at 320 Ferry Road, is hosting a holiday scoop pop-up from noon – 4 p.m. on Dec. 6. Three holiday flavors – Hot Cocoa, Candy Cane Crunch, and Egg Nog- will be available for $5, with proceeds going to Toys for Tots. There will also be a fire pit and free hot chocolate. New, unwrapped toys will be collected for Toys for Tots.

Tom Barhelmes, co-owner and chef at Finestkind in Saco’s Pepperell Square, was named Lobster Chef of the Year on Oct. 31 at the 2025 Maine Lobster Chef of the Year Competition at the Harvest on the Harbor food and drink festival in Portland. His winning entry was lobster custard and poached lobster in Hong Kong-style XO sauce with young ginger and crispy tempura, presented in a carved eggshell.
