Fireworks and other activities scheduled for July 4

Friday is July 4, and local activities on tap include a parade, fireworks, music and a barbecue.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH

Old Orchard Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from beginning at 5 p.m. on July 4 until midnight to allow for safe pedestrian movement and enhanced security throughout Old Orchard Beach.

Fireworks will be held by The Pier at 9:45 on July 3 and July 4.

A free concert with Maine’s 195 Army National Guard Band will be held at 7 p.m., July 4 at Seaside Pavillion, 8 Sixth St.

OCEAN PARK

The 39th Annual Family Sand Sculpture Competition, will be held from 1-4 p.m., July 3 on the beach between Randall and Ancona Avenues. This year’s theme is Wonders of the World. Rules and registration information are available at the Ocean Park Office or at the site on the day of the competition. Judging begins at 4 p.m. and winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m. on the beach.

The 74th annual Independence Day Parade will take place at 10 a.m. on July 4, starting at The Temple at 48 Temple Ave. The parade will be followed by a concert at The Bell Tower next to The Temple.

Line Dancing will take place at 7 p.m. on July 4 at the Ocean Park Square on Temple Avenue across from Jakeman Hall.

An art show and sale by Saco Bay Artists will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 4 at the lawn at the Ocean Park Square on Temple Avenue.

SACO

Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. on July 3 at Funtown Splashtown, USA at 774 Portland Road.

Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center, 7 Boardwalk Drive, Saco, is hosting a special 4th of July Concert and BBQ on Friday, July 4, from 6-9 p.m. This patriotic celebration will feature a wide variety of food, live music with local bluegrass band Borderline 207, dancing, and Old Orchard Beach’s firework show.

The menu for the cookout includes beef hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled chicken cutlets, marinated and grilled tempeh, cole slaw, macaroni salad, herbed potato salad, tomato caprese salad, baba ghanoush, vegetable crudit, fruit salad, watermelon-mint punch, cookies and brownies and strawberry-rhubarb crisp.
