Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out in a cabin at an Old Orchard Beach hotel on Tuesday morning.

The Old Orchard Beach Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at the Grand Beach Inn, 198 East Grand Ave. around 10:34 a.m. on Feb. 3, according to a press release from Deputy Fire Chief Travis McDonald.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a large volume of smoke coming from a 20 by 20 foot single-story building, and discovered heavy fire inside the building, said McDonald.

“Crews initiated an aggressive fire attack and conducted a primary search to ensure all occupants were safely evacuated,” said McDonald in the press release.

He said the fire was brought under control around 11:10 a.m., with the scene declared clear at 12:23 p.m.

The Old Orchard Beach fire department received mutual aid from Saco and Scarborough fire departments.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department. Preliminary damage estimates are undetermined at this time, said McDonald.
