The Family Dollar store in Old Orchard Beach is closing next month.
A sign in the window and a banner over the entrance to the store on Heath Street announce the closure. Inside, items are tagged 30 percent off for quick sale.
A sign on the front door directs customers to shop at the store on Elm Street in Biddeford once the Old Orchard Beach store is closed.
Family Dollar is a national discount retailer that sells food, hygiene products, household cleaners, clothing, greeting cards and other items.
A spokesperson confirmed that the store is closing next month, but did not share any details why.
“This November, the Old Orchard Beach Family Dollar store will be closing. We appreciate the support of the community and hope to continue to serve you at our other locations in Biddeford and Portland,” said Family Dollar officials in a prepared statement.
Discount chain Dollar Tree purchased Family Dollar in 2015 for $9 billion, according to Fortune Magazine. The two stores are no longer connected. Dollar Tree sold Family Dollar earlier this year for $1 million (considerably less than it paid for it) to a private investment firm.
