If you felt the earth shake this morning, you’re not alone.

According to the York County Emergency Management Agency, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake occurred at 10:22 today (Monday, Jan. 27) about six miles off the coast of York Harbor.

“Today was an unusual one for us here in York County. While this was our largest earthquake since the 4.0 Hollis earthquake 2012, we are thankful that we have not received any reports of damage,” said the York County Emergency Management Agency on Facebook.

According to an information sheet compiled by York County EMA, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake is big for New England, in general it is considered small.

Though the earthquake was offshore, there was no risk of a tidal wave, as the tidal wave was well below the 7.0 magnitude threshold for that to occur, according to the York County EMA.

There were reports of the earthquake felt in Maine as well as the other five New England states and New York, according to information submitted to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Those who felt the earthquake and wish to report their experience can do so at the U.S. Geological Survey's website.
