SACO — The show is over at Saco Cinemagic, and the seven other theaters owned by Zyacorp Entertainment.

Zyacorp released a statement on Monday stating that after 20 years of operating movie theaters in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, it was closing its theaters for good.

“To the thousands of “Cinemagicians” who have joined us in providing the magic of movies on the big screen over the past two decades and the generations of movie goers who we have served, we thank you for being part of our family. It has been an honor and a privilege to provide our communities with the magic of cinema,” said Zyacorp in the statement.

Saco Cinemagic was one of three theaters in Maine owned by Zyacorp. The other two were in Westbrook and South Portland.

Zyacorp had announced a few weeks ago that it was closing temporarily, and it was “just intermission” with the intent in opening again in the spring.

The closing of the Cinemagic theaters comes about a month after the death of the Zyacorp founder and Manchester, New Hampshire resident Mark Adam. According to an obituary on Legacy.com, Adam founded Zyacorp in 1998 after Canad Cinemas, where he worked as vice president of operations, was sold. Zyacorp had exclusive licensure to IMAX movie screens in Maine and New Hampshire, according to the obituary.

The closing of Cinemagic at 779 Portland Road in Saco leaves a void in northern York County. Last year, Smitty’s Cinema in Biddeford closed. The Saco Drive-In is open seasonally, and Smitty’s Cinema in Sanford remains open.
