Residents in Biddeford elected seven members of the Charter Revision Commission.
The Charter Revision Commission is composed of nine members. Seven members, one from each ward, are elected by voters. Two are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council, according to information from the city’s website.
The City Charter is a document that outlines the structure and operation of municipal government. According to state law, if a municipality wants to make changes to a charter, a charter revision commission must be created to review the Charter and propose revisions. Any proposed changes must then go back to the voters for approval in a future election.
All seven members elected on Tuesday ran unopposed. The seven elected members of the Charter Review Commission are: Michael Swanton from Ward 1, Scott Whiting from Ward 2, Richard Rhames from Ward 3, Bob Mills from Ward 4, Cat Bates from Ward 5, Norman Belanger from Ward 6, and Samuel Pecor from Ward 7.
The Charter Revision Commission will hold an organizational meeting to choose leadership positions and decide on dates and times of meetings, according to information from the city’s website.
