Biddeford Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Thorpe has been promoted to assistant chief.

Thorpe joined the Biddeford Fire Department in April 2004 as a Firefighter/Paramedic. He was promoted to Lieutenant/Paramedic in May 2019 and was then promoted to Deputy Fire Chief in August 2022. In 2024, he was the recipient of the City of Biddeford’s Management Team Member of the Year award.

“Ken is dedicated to the safety, success and operational effectiveness of the members and the Department. His expertise, tactical, strategic, and leadership presence all add tremendous value, said Chief Larry Best. “He is clearly focused and committed to serving the members who perform the mission of the Biddeford Fire Department and the City. I’d like to extend my congratulations to Assistant Chief Thorpe and his family on attaining this important career achievement.”

Thorpe’s passion for the Fire Service began over 40 years when he joined the Windham and Gorham Fire Departments in December 1984, where he served as member until December 2021.

“Being part of the leadership team for the Biddeford Fire Department is a great responsibility, and one that I’m proud to hold,” Thorpe said. “I’m excited for the future of the Fire Department. For me, it’s important that the men and women of the Fire Department know that they matter and that I’m there to support them. They should be proud of the service they provide to the City of Biddeford.”
