The Ashley Ouellette Memorial 5K & 2 Mile Walk on April 18 will honor its namesake and raise money to support families affected by homicide.

Ashley Oullette was a 15-year-old Thornton Academy sophomore when she was found dead around 4 a.m. on Feb. 10, 1999, according to information from Maine State Police. A passing motorist found her body lying in the middle of Pine Point Road in Scarborough. She was spending the night at a friend’s house in Saco, and disappeared from the home. Ashley was last seen alive at 2:00 that morning.

Ashley’s homicide remains unsolved.

The Ashley Ouellette Memorial 5k & 2 Mile Walk will begin at 9 a.m., April 18, at Blue Point Primary School, 174 Pine Point Road, Scarborough. Register online or at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the race.

“Each step taken is a reminder that Ashley is not forgotten,” said race organizers in a press release. “We walk and run not only in her memory, but to stand beside her family and all those impacted by violence.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit Parents of Murdered Children, a national organization that provides ongoing emotional support, education, and advocacy for families and friends of those affected by homicide.
