Emergency dispatchers received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting crash involving a tractor-trailer truck and a car at the 500 Block of Route 112, around 9 a.m. on Friday, May 3, according to a press release from Saco Police Chief Jack Clements.

A preliminary investigation based on witness statements and evidence gathered at the scene found that a black Nissan Versa sedan was traveling westbound on Route 112 when it crossed the center line into the path of an eastbound Western Express semi-truck, leading to a tragic head-on collision, said Clements. The driver of the Nissan Versa was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the driver of the Versa is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, said Clements.

The Saco Police Department Crash Investigation Unit is reconstructing the accident to determine the precise sequence of events, said Clements in the 12:30 p.m. press release on Friday. In response to the involvement of a semi-truck, the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit has been called in to assist with the investigation, he said.

To ensure public safety and manage traffic flow, the Buxton Police Department and Buxton Fire/Police were providing traffic control support until the road could be safely reopened, said Clements at the time of the press release.
