No injuries reported after dump truck catches fire in Arundel

ARUNDEL — The driver of a dump truck that caught fire on Tuesday was able to exit the vehicle safely.

According to the York County Sherrif’s Office, Logan Ricker, 19, of Sanford, was driving a dump truck  Tuesday afternoon, and as he turned west onto Route 111 (Alfred Road) from Limerick Road, he noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and pulled over to the side of the road. Shortly after, the truck was engulfed in flames, according to the sheriff’s office.

Fire Departments from Arundel, Goodwins Mills, and Biddeford came to the scene in the area of 987 Alfred Road and extinguished the fire, according to the sheriff’s office.

 

Alfred road was closed for an extended period of time during rush hour until Ray's Truck Services could remove the dump truck. No injuries were reported, according to the sheriff’s office.

The vehicle was a 2005 Kenworth dump truck, and belonged to N.M. Curtis Earthworks, a company in Berwick, according to the sheriff’s office. According to the company’s website, N.M. Curtis Earthworks provides professional excavation and site development services and supplies crushed stone, sand and gravel for commercial and residential customers.
