York County Deputies discover drugs in takeout food container
Two Massachusetts men were arrested in Alfred on Friday after police found narcotics in a take-out container of Chinese food.
York County Sheriff’s Deputy Cody Frazier stopped a car on Biddeford Road in Alfred for an equipment violation around 9 p.m. on Friday, according to a written statement from the York County Sheriff’s office. The driver of the vehicle was Miguel Hernandez, 23, of Lawrence, Massachusetts. Layhonel Baez, 27, also of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was a passenger in the front seat of the car.
Frazier noted indicators of criminal activity, and his K-9 partner, Rebel, sniffed the exterior of the vehicle. Rebel alerted Frazier that he smelled narcotics, according to the Sheriff’s Office. While the car was being searched, Baez ran into the woods. Deputy Levi Johnson arrived to assist Frazier and Rebel and catch Baez.
A bag of 36.7 grams of fentanyl/methamphetamine compound was found inside of a take-out food container that also contained Chinese food, according to the written statement.
Hernandez was arrested and charged with Aggravated Trafficking of Scheduled Drugs (Class A). His bail was set at $10,000, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Baez was arrested and charged with Aggravated Trafficking of Scheduled Drugs (Class A) and will be indicted on the charge of Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention (Class D), according to the Sheriff’s Office. His bail was set at $15,000.
