Wreaths Across America Convoy travels through York County on Monday
The Wreaths Across America Convoy passed through Saco and Biddeford around 8 a.m. on Monday as it made its journey with the ultimate destination of Washington D.C.
Wreaths Across America, since 1992, has made an annual week-long trek every December from Harrington, Maine to Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. to deliver wreaths to soldiers’ graves.
The organization began this year’s journey on Saturday, Dec. 9, and will make several stops at schools and other organizations to promote its mission of “Remember, Honor, Teach” before its scheduled arrival at Arlington National Cemetery on Dec. 16.
The convoy left Ocean Gateway in Portland on Monday morning and headed toward York High School for an assembly. On its way south to York, it traveled down Route One through Saco and Biddeford, a long assembly of police cars, tractor trailers and vehicles decked out with Wreaths Across America decals.
There will also be local Wreaths Across America ceremonies happening across the country on Dec. 16. In Biddeford, wreath laying ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m. at St. Demetrios, St. Joseph, St. Mary’s and Woodlawn cemeteries. For more information go to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/me0075 .
