The Street Project film screening and discussion set for Thursday in Biddeford
BIDDEFORD — A screening of the documentary film The Street Project will be held Thursday night.
In 2010, the small community of specialists who pay attention to US road safety statistics picked up on a troubling trend: more and more pedestrians and cyclists were being killed on American roads. In fact, pedestrian deaths have increased 51 percent since reaching their low point in 2009. In addition to the loss of human life, it is estimated that road injuries will cost the world economy $1.8 trillion from 2015–2030.
The Street Project is the story about humanity’s relationship to the streets and the global citizen-led fight to make communities safer.
The 52-minute documentary is about the fight for safer streets and will be shown at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Banded Brewing, 32 Main St., building 13W, Biddeford.
This film is being shown in collaboration with the Maine Trails Coalition with support from Banded Brewing and the McArthur Public Library of Biddeford.
Following the film there will be a question-and-answer session with panelists Dakota Hewlett, Active Transportation Planner with the Maine Department of Transportation; Liam LaFountain and Marty Grohman from the Biddeford City Council, and Belinda Ray, Director of Strategic Partnerships with the Greater Portland Council of Governments.
