Maine State Police are investigating a workplace death that took place in Dayton earlier this week.

State troopers responded to a report of an employee at Dayton Sand and Gravel who had been struck by a front-end loader around noon on Monday, Sept. 23, according to a press release from Shannon Moss, public safety officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Cory Maddox, 43, of East Waterboro was reportedly walking across the yard of Dayton Sand and Gravel when he was hit by the bucket of a front-end loader that was operated by another worker, according to Moss. Efforts to resuscitate Maddox were unsuccessful, said Moss.

The incident is under investigation by OSHA, according to Moss. There is no sign of criminal activity involved, said Moss.

Dayton Sand and Gravel is located at 928 Goodwin Mills Road, Dayton.

The Maine State Police Department was assisted by the York County Sheriff’s Department, Wells Police Department, Goodwins Mills Fire and Rescue, Mine Safety and Health Administration and Occupational Safety and Health Administration, said Moss.
