BIDDEFORD — Smitty’s Cinema in Biddeford has closed its doors for good.

The movie theater, located at the Five Points Shopping Center, offered dinner and a movie in one location, serving food and drinks that patrons could enjoy while watching movies.

Like movies theaters across Maine, Smitty’s had shut down during emergency regulations enforcing social distancing practices.

However, the company, which owns theaters in Sanford, Windham, Topsham and Tilton, NH, announced Monday that the Biddeford location was closing for good.

“The Covid 19 crisis that has hit our country has been difficult in many ways. In addition to the personal challenges it has presented, it has been devastating to many businesses, especially those in the cinema and restaurant industries. The crisis has had an especially destructive effect on Smitty’s Cinema in Biddeford. We regret to say that due to the unprecedented damages this pandemic has inflicted upon our Biddeford location, Smitty’s Cinema in Biddeford will not be reopening,” wrote Smitty’s Cinema owners on Facebook.

The other Smitty’s locations will remain open, and Smitty’s gift cards are honored at all locations.
