SACO — Allen Sicard, a Democrat and  lifelong resident of Saco, announced he is running for re-election for the District 3 York County Board of Commissioners seat.

The district will serve Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Buxton and Hollis. Dayton is being removed from District 3 as part of a state-wide redistricting based on census data.

Each of Maine’s 16 counties has a county commissioners board elected by residents. County commissioners boards are comprised of three, five or seven commissioners. York County has five commissioners who serve four-year terms.

Sicard is President of Rocky Coast Marketing, with a career in advertising and marketing spanning forty years. He has served as the District 3 County Commissioner since 2018.

“I am proud of the work we’ve done over the last three plus years…and I hope the voters will return me to the seat where I currently serve as vice chair,” he said in a written statement.

Accomplishments included the stabilization of the low county tax rate as well as vetting numerous projects and applying for the $40 million federal American Rescue Plan funds, he said.

“These projects will benefit the quality of life in York County for decades to come,” said Sicard.

Sicard received his executive MBA from the University of New Hampshire in 2000. He serves on the board of the Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission. He is also former chairman of the York County Federal Credit Union Board, (now Atlantic FCU), and a former board chairman of Waban Projects, serving mentally challenged children and adults throughout York County. Sicard presently serves on the Thornton Academy Alumni Board as a class agent.

He is married to his wife of 40 years, Mary, an educator at Thornton Academy, and has two adult children and two grandsons.

Sicard faces competition from Democrat Justin Chenette, who announced last year his candidacy for the District 3 York County Board of Commissioners seat. Chenette lives in Saco and is a former state senator and state representative.
