BIDDEFORD — Stacy Miller loved the ambiance a scented candle added to her home, but unfortunately, they triggered her husband Barry’s asthma.

The couple set out to find a solution.  They’ve created hand-crafted candles made with soy wax, essential oils, lead and zinc free cotton wick which they sell through their business Sea Love. All candles are phthalate-free and dye-free.

“We made a candle that we could safely use in our home, and we wanted to share it with others,” said Stacy.

The couple has a shop in Kennebunkport and recently welcomed a studio and factory shop at 40 Main St. in Biddeford with a ribbon cutting with the Biddeford + Saco Chamber of Commerce.

“We actually make the magic right here,” said Stacy.

The Sea Love location in the Pepperell Mill complex is spacious and inviting -  the candle production area is in the back and in the front, a cozy boutique with the company’s signature candle line and coastal-inspired home goods.

The candles feature clean scents, many inspired by coastal living, like “Seaside Mimosa,” and “Salt Air.” The most popular scent is pine, which is in demand not just around Christmas, but all year round, as many people associate the scent with Maine, said Stacy.

For those interested in learning about candle-making and creating their own signature scent, Sea Love offers candle and diffuser making workshops at its Biddeford shop. Participants in the two-hour class will leave with a soy candle and a reed diffuser.

“They’re great for team-building events, bridal showers and birthday parties,” said Stacy.
