SACO — The Saco School Department is changing its meal delivery schedule and will only be distributing free meals for children on Fridays starting April 10.

Under the new schedule, a bag of food with 14 meals – seven lunches and seven breakfasts, and a gallon of milk will be given to any child 18-years-old or younger on Fridays at one of four meal sites.

Meals will be dropped off on Fridays at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fairfield School, 75 Beach St.;

the Riverview Falls Apartments area, 35 Water St.; Blue Haven Mobile Home Park,  885 Portland Road; and Boothby Park, Boothby Rd.

If driving to the meal site, remain in your vehicle, show staff with your fingers or shout out the number of children 18 and younger for whom you are picking up meals. Open the trunk of your car, step away and staff will place meal bags in your vehicle. If there’s no trunk access, or if you walk to the meal site, staff will place meal bags on a table for you to pick up.

Meals will also be given out on April 17 and April 24, the Fridays during school vacation.

The Saco School Nutrition Program is able to provide free breakfast and lunch to any child ages 18 years and younger and receive federal reimbursement for meals during the COVID-19 school closure, through an extension of the USDA’s free Summer Meals Program.
