Saco Meals Program serves free community dinners
SACO — There’s a seat for you at the table at the Saco Community Meals program.
The Saco Meals program has been in operation for nearly 20 years, serving a free community meal on Monday and Thursday evenings at Most Holy Trinity Church Hall, 271 Main St., Saco. Doors open at 4:15 p.m. for drinks and socialization and meals are served at 4:45 p.m.
Dinners are sit-down meals. Volunteers serve each guest, providing an experience similar to going out to a restaurant.
There is no registration required and all who walk through the door are welcome. Monthly menus are posted online at www.sacomeals.org and at the Saco Meals Program Facebook page.
Meals are free, but donations are accepted. The program is run entirely by volunteers. Meals are made with items from Good Shepherd Food Bank and with the help of donations from community sponsors. There is also a giving table with fresh produce, bakery items, canned food, and dry goods that guests can take to use at home throughout the week.
On Thursday, Oct. 6, Age Friendly Saco will be partnering with the meal program and can provide transportation to those who have no other means of transportation. For more information on Age Friendly Saco, call 207-710-5029.
