The Saco firefighters recently showed their appreciation to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for a grant that allowed the department to purchase a new boat.

Saco Fire Chief John Duross, Deputy Fire Chief David Pendleton, and Support Aide Mike Tremblay traveled to Firehouse Subs in Biddeford on Wednesday, Sept. 14, to present a plaque and photograph of the Saco Fire Department’s newest watercraft, purchased thanks to a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

The Saco Fire Department representatives presented the plaque and photo to Michael Korman, owner of the Biddeford franchise.

The $33,647 grant was used to purchase Marine 6, a Ribcraft 4.8-meter rigid hull inflatable boat; an outboard motor, and a trailer. Marine 6 will help the Saco Fire Department keep the community safe in emergency situations and help protect its local waterways.

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was founded in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It awards grants for lifesaving equipment, prevention education, scholarships and continued education, disaster relief, and support for members of the military. Patrons at Firehouse Subs can support the foundation by purchasing pickle buckets for $3, donating spare change or rounding their purchase up to the nearest dollar.
