SACO – New sewer lines, storm drains, curbing, and sidewalks are being added along Flag Pond Road this spring and summer. Construction work begins this week, and we’ve outlined the tentative project timeline and detour information below.

PHASE 1

Beginning the week of April 24 and lasting for approximately four weeks, the intersection of Flag Pond Rd and Route 1 will be closed to all traffic entering Flag Pond Road from Route 1.

One traffic lane will be allowed to exit Flag Pond Road onto Route 1 during this construction phase. Route 1 will also be restricted to two lanes in the intersection area during construction.

The Flag Pond Road/Route 1 intersection will be closed as described until a new sewer line, storm drains, curbing, and sidewalks are constructed along Flag Pond Rd going back 150 feet from the intersection (as visible in the attached image and pdf). Once this 150-foot section is completed, phase two will begin, and the intersection will be reopened to two-way traffic.

PHASE 2

Construction will continue west on Flag Pond Road to McKenzie Preserve and will last approximately three months. During this time, temporary stop-and-go traffic lights will be added along Flag Pond Road to allow one lane of travel 24 hours a day around the construction area.

We ask all who pass by to please drive safely and slowly in construction zones and plan your route with this detour information in mind. This construction timeline is subject to change – we will update you if any significant schedule changes occur.
