Robert Clarke Obituary
On Monday, August 29, 2022, Robert (Bob) W. Clarke passed away. Born on March 25, 1965 to George P. and Janet (Jones) Clarke of Huntington, New York. He was 57 years old.
Bob was kind, generous, thoughtful and had a dry sense of humor (Irish wit). When visiting his favorite hangouts in Huntington, he was fondly known as the “Mayor.” He loved traveling especially when it involved historically significant locations, soccer and countries that had good beer. As a sports fanatic he followed all New York sports teams, especially the Jets. He adopted Notre Dame as his favorite college team. Inexplicably, the Minnesota Vikings were his childhood favorite team during the reign of the Purple People Eaters. Athletically, Bob could play any sport. He created a wiffleball field in the backyard and dominated all who challenged him both righty and lefty! As a caddy at Huntington CC his personality and hustle made him very much in demand by members.
Over the years Bob lived in Florida, Massachusetts, Maine and settled back in Huntington. He made friends along the way bringing out the best in everyone. His network of friends was extensive and he cherished them like family, remembering all the milestone events. However, it was the everyday moments that mattered most to him.
As the youngest of five siblings, Bob was preceded in death by his father, George and Mother, Judy. He is survived by his sisters Betsy Clarke (Marc Wipperman), Diane Clarke Delehanty (Kevin Delehanty), brother James Clarke (Catherine McGivney), Richard Clarke (Nanci Clarke), stepmother Juliana Ruhland-Clarke, stepsister Eva Dickinson (Nate Dickerson) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He worked at UPS, Philip Morris, Johnson & Johnson, Follet Educational Services and IDEXX Laboratories. Bob graduated from Huntington High School and American International College.
Bob’s health challenges over the past few years made it difficult to see friends and loved ones face to face, but he continued to stay in close contact. His positive outlook, constant faith and uplifting spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at St Patrick’s Church, Huntington, NY on October 8, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to The Huntington Historical Society or the Amputee Coalition.
