Residents in part of Saco asked to shelter in place as police continue search for four men

Saco Police Chief Jack Clements held a 4:15 p.m. press conference regarding an incident that occurred in Saco today.

Here is what reporter Randy Seaver learned:

1.) This is still an active and fluid situation. Residents and others near the intersections of North and Scammon streets are still being asked to shelter in place.

2. ) Police say they are searching for four Hispanic males ran away from a multi-car accident at approximately 11:54 a.m. today, near the intersection of Main and Elm streets. No other details about the suspects are known at this time.

3.) According to Clements, gun fire was exchanged at the scene of the accident, with occupants from one car firing at another vehicle.

4.) A school bus with students from Old Orchard Beach was also involved in the accident. None of the students were injured in the incident.

5.) Students from Thornton Academy and other Saco public schools have been released, under police supervision, to their parents.

6.) Police are asking members of the public to please avoid the area.

7.) Several K-9 units have been dispatched to assist with the search.

8.) There is a large police presence in Saco, including members of the Maine State Police tactical squad and officers from the Cumberland County Sherrif's office; York County Sherrif's Office, the Biddeford Police Department, the Old Orchard Beach Police Department; the Kennebunk Police Department, the Wells Police Department and the Saco Police Department.
