Pride Month events and Scottish Festival set for this weekend
Pride Month festivities and the annual Scottish Festival top this weekend’s events.
Pride Month
Pride month is observed in June, honoring the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan and promoting the self-affirmation, equality and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals.
Pride month events kick off in Biddeford on Friday night with a concert at City Theater. On Saturday at noon, a flag raising followed by a picnic hosted by the Biddeford High School allies team will be held at Mechanics Park. A confetti bazarre will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on Lincoln Street, and drag shows with Curbside Queens are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. at City Theater.
For more information on these events as well as Pride events scheduled later in June, go to the Heart of Biddeford website.
Saco Main Street is hosting Pride in the Park from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Foss Road recreational fields in Saco. The main attraction will be a colorful powder walk/run around the perimeter of Foss Fields, with six color stations ready. There will also be vendors and music.
The color run will start at 1 p.m. and participants can sign up online. It’s free to come as a spectator.
Scottish Festival
OOB365 is hosting the annual Scottish Festival, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park, 4 Heath St., Old Orchard Beach. There will be Scottish food, music, a bagpipe competition, Scottish artisans, Highland games and a whiskey tasting tent. Tickets can be purchased online.
