OLD ORCHARD BEACH — One of the town’s best-known people was recently honored for her work with Old Orchard Beach Community Friendly Connection.

V. Louise Reid, who will soon be retiring as Assistant Town Manager, was recognized on the 2020 Maine Volunteer Roll of Honor.

The Maine Volunteer Roll of Honor is an effort by Volunteer Maine, the state service commission, to show appreciation to Maine residents who serve their local community. To be considered, one must have completed at least 500 hours of community service in the last year.

Reid is the co- founder and chairwoman of OOB Community Friendly Connection. Reid and her team have successfully completed more than a dozen infrastructure and community building activities since the group’s founding, including developing a local resource guide, conducting a community-wide needs assessment, establishing transportation and trolley services and developing and passing local tax relief for those 70 and older, according to information submitted by the OOB CFC.

“Louise has been a tireless leader on all these efforts, leveraging decades of personal connections and relationships of trust, along with her formidable skills in municipal administration to help transform, engage and empower residents of the town,” stated OOB CFC members in the written document.

Other local volunteers who were recognized on the Maine Volunteer Roll of Honor include Elmer Berry and Lawrence O’Brien of Old Orchard Beach, Fred Roberts of Biddeford and Phil Morse of Saco.
