OLD ORCHARD BEACH — More than 1,000 people kicked off their Labor Day Weekend by going to see The Masterstroke Queen Experience at The Ballpark.

The Masterstroke Queen Experience, a Queen tribute band, hit the stage around 6:30 pm. on Friday. It was the final show at The Ballpark’s summer concert series, Rock the Park, and had the biggest audience turnout.

The band gave an energetic performance to an equally enthusiastic crowd. The 30 song set list of Queen’s biggest hits included fan favorites like “Killer Queen,” “Don’t Stop me Now,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and “You’re my Best Friend.”

Money raised from the Rock the Park concerts went toward The Ballpark, a town-owned facility at the end of Ballpark Way, off E. Emerson Cummings Boulevard.

“This summer went beyond our expectations. Jason, Stephanie, Nicki, Frank, Kira and everyone on the OOB Rec staff did such an amazing job, as well as volunteers from Saco Bay Sunset Rotary, the Saco Bay News, photographer Jim Swain, State Rep. Lori Gramlich, Saco City Councilor Jodi MacPhail and everyone else who helped made for a most memorable season,” said Friends of The Ballpark President Alex MacPhail. “We hope to continue this success into the future and help expand the possibilities at our historic Ballpark for generations to come.”

“I am super proud of our staff and what we accomplished with the Rock the Park series,” said Recreation Director Jason Webber. “We are looking to make next year even bigger and better. So, make sure you get your season tickets. You’re not going to want to miss it. We will bring back some of our popular acts and sprinkle in a couple of surprises.”
