OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach Police Department is applying for funds through the 2021 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.

The Old Orchard Beach Police Department hopes to secure about $10,600 for the purchase of two wireless security cameras.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. The program funds support all components of the criminal justice system, from multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment, and justice information sharing initiatives. JAG funded projects may address crime through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes, and procedures.

JAG funds may be used to provide additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice for one or more of the following programs: law enforcement, prosecution and court, prevention and education programs, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, crime victim and witness, and metal health.
