Old Orchard Beach man identified as one of three who died in wrong-way crash on Maine Turnpike
An Old Orchard Beach man was among three people who died in a fatal car crash on the Maine Turnpike in Portland last week.
Public safety officials responded to reports of a car traveling southbound at a high speed in the northbound lane of the Maine Turnpike near the mile 48 marker in Portland around 9:40 p.m. on Nov. 29.
The driver of the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction drove a gray 2018 Honda Civic sedan and struck a silver 2020 Ford F150 pickup truck, according to Shannon Moss, public information officer with Maine Department of Public Safety. The driver of the pickup was not injured and the truck received minor damage, said Moss.
Shortly after hitting the pickup truck, the driver heading in the wrong direction struck a black 2013 Toyota Rav4 head-on, in the left northbound lane near the mile 45 marker, said Moss. Upon impact, both vehicles caught on fire and became fully engulfed.
The operator of the Toyota Rav4, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was deceased when emergency responders arrived, said Moss. The two occupants of the Honda, the car that was traveling in the wrong direction, were also deceased.
Moss released a statement on Tuesday, Dec. 5 stating that the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta had officially identified the three people who died in the Nov. 29 crash.
The driver of the gray Honda 2018 Honda Civic was Brandon Crawford Adams, 23, of Old Orchard Beach, and the passenger in the Honda Civic was Julia Chapdelaine, 22, of Dudley, Massachusetts. The driver of the black 2013 Toyota Rav4 was Alpha Anastacio, 33, of Portland.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, said Moss.
