SACO — A popular Mexican eatery in South Portland will soon be adding a location in Saco.

Karen Rasmussen and Manny Pena, owners of Taco Trio restaurant in South Portland, said in an email that they are opening a similar restaurant in Saco this spring.

The new restaurant is scheduled to open in March at 27 Elm St., the former location of Skipper’s Seafood and Rotisserie. The space was been vacant since early fall of 2019, when Chuck and Karen Forzely decided to retire and close the seafood restaurant after 21 years.

Rasmussen and Pena said they had looked for years for a big enough location in the Saco and Biddeford area, and 27 Elm St. was an ideal spot.

“We feel very fortunate to be expanding in this way at this time. Skippers' owners Chuck and Karen Forzely were so gracious and helpful! We can't thank them enough,” they said in the email. “We're really excited to be part of the Biddeford-Saco community and participate in all the new activity there. It's a wonderful opportunity!”

Rasmussen and Pena said the menu at the Saco restaurant will be similar to the menu at the South Portland restaurant, but more extensive.

“We'll have greater diversity of food and beverages. We also plan to offer breakfast,” they said.

The menu for the Taco Trio in South Portland includes many varieties of tacos and burritos, including vegetarian options. It also features several types of enchiladas and quesadillas as well as tamales, dessert items and sopes – fried corn dough bowls with pinto beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream and other fillings.
