Maine State Police are investigating a fatal turnpike accident that resulted in the death of two people.

Around 6 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, Maine State Police responded to a fatal car crash on southbound I-95 in Ogunquit, according to a press release from Shannon Moss, public safety officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Police believe that Xiaoying Ma, 35, of New York City, was driving a tractor trailer truck owned by EW Logistics of Hauppage, New York, and was traveling northbound on the turnpike when he lost control of the truck and crashed through the median guardrail into two vehicles traveling southbound, according to Moss.

The first car struck was a Cadillac sedan operated by Linda Huelsman, 64, of Kennebunk. Huelsman died on the scene from her injuries, said Moss.

The second vehicle struck was a Mack Box truck owned by EAN Holdings of Tulsa, Oklahoma and operated by Brian Ellis, 55, of Kittery. Ellis was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital but later died from his injuries, said Moss.

Ma, the operator of the tractor trailer truck, was taken to York Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Moss.

“Weather conditions are believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing and will be submitted to the York County District Attorney’s Office for review of any criminal charges,” said Moss.

Maine State Police were assisted by Ogunquit and Wells Fire Departments, Maine DEP, Maine Turnpike Maintenance and National Wrecker, said Moss.
