Maine State Police investigating Biddeford homicide

Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in Biddeford on Friday night.

The Biddeford Police Department received a 911 call regarding shots fired on Foss Street around 10:53 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, according to a press release from Shannon Moss, public safety officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Moss sent out the press release to media by email on Sunday, Sept. 29.

Public safety officials arrived at Foss Street in Biddeford to find an injured man, according to Moss. Emergency responders rendered aid, but the man, later identified as Gene Dares, 46, of Biddeford died at the scene, said Moss.

 

An autopsy of Dares was performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, said Moss. The cause of death was determined to be gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was determined to be homicide, said Moss.

There is no known specific threat to the public, said Moss.

 The Biddeford Police Department and the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South are investigating the incident, according to Moss.

No other information about the shooting is being released at this time, according to Moss.
