SACO —Saco Ward 6 City Councilor and Deputy Mayor Jodi MacPhail announced today her candidacy for the upcoming mayoral election.
The two-term city councilor is council liaison to the Economic Development Commission, Saco Parks and Rec Advisory Board and Dyer Library Board of Trustees, and has also served as a longtime volunteer with Saco Main Street and United Baptist Church, according to a press release sent today, June 8. She is also a lifelong Saco resident and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1989, according to the press release.
"I intend to continue to work for all residents of Saco with a transparent and open dialogue with constituents, city staff, council and communities around us and give a platform for all voices to be heard,” said MacPhail in a written statement.
MacPhail is currently serving as Deputy Mayor, and said, if elected, she would be Saco’s first female mayor.
In Saco, there is an elected Mayor and seven elected councilors representing the city’s seven wards. The mayor serves three-year terms.
The mayor is the chief executive officer of the city and the head of the city government, according to City Charter. The mayor presides over all meetings of the City Council and School Board and votes only in the case of a tie.
