A Swiss bakery will be added to the mix of food destinations in downtown Biddeford next year.

Alex Weissenfluh and Valentina Correa Weissenfluh, owners of Edelweiss Confections and makers of hand-crafted Swiss truffles and other delights, announced they are opening a Swiss-style bakery in Biddeford in 2024. The couple found their passion for creating Swiss-style confections with quality ingredients while attending culinary school in Switzerland, according to the Edelweiss website.

Edelweiss Pastry Shop will offer breakfast pastries, petit gateaux (small cakes), personal tarts and quiches, chocolate truffles, and other confections, said Alex Weissenfluh in an email. Drip coffee from Time and Tide coffee will also be served.

In the meantime, Edelweiss truffles can be found at several area locations including Nibblesford cheese shop in downtown Biddeford, or purchased online.

Christmas Eve will be the last day to hit up Twin Cities Café on Alfred Street in downtown Biddeford for breakfast. Look for a story about the café’s closing tomorrow.
