The City of Saco, Saco + Biddeford Chamber of Commerce + Industry and Saco Main Street welcomed Fika, a new Scandinavian bakery and coffee shop, to the downtown this week with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The take-out café is located at 17 Storer St., and starting today, is open 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Fika translates to “coffee break” in Swedish.

“It’s taking a break with a pastry and something good to sip on. It’s relishing the present moment, making space in your day to treat yourself. With friends or without, to fika is to allow the pace of life to slow down, if just for a little while,” said owners Kristina Alving and Samuel Wiese on the bakery’s website.

The menu includes coffee drinks, cardamom buns, brioche, pistachio olive oil cake and breakfast sandwiches.

Unwind

Scott Parsons and Brittany Brown recently announced the sale of Unwind Cocktail Lounge at 172 Main St.

“You can expect to see some changes but the same dedication to creating a space to connect in Saco,” they said in a Facebook on Tuesday.
