For many Mainers, nothing says it’s the holiday season like a slice of pork pie.

Pork pie, or tourtière, is a traditional French-Canadian pie made with seasoned ground pork and mashed potatoes baked in a pie crust.

If you’ve got a hankering for this savory dish, the Saco Meals Program is selling pork pies 1 – 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at Most Holy Trinity Church, 271 Main St., Saco.

The fresh-made nine-inch pies made with dough from Reilly’s Bakery in Biddeford are $20 each. Cash payment is preferred.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the Saco Meals Program, which serves free community dinners on Monday and Thursday evenings at Most Holy Trinity Church Hall, 271 Main St., Saco. Doors open at 4:15 p.m. for drinks and socialization and meals are served at 4:45 p.m.

If you want something sweet with that pork pie, head on over to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 186 Bradley St. on Saturday for the Greek Bazaar. Check out Monday’s story for more details.
