This Sunday is Maine Maple Sunday, a day that honors the state’s official sweetener.

Held on the fourth Sunday of March, Maine Maple Sunday is a long-standing tradition, and so popular that many sugar shacks across the state host Maine Maple Weekend.

There are many places in York County and beyond to celebrate Maine Maple Sunday, and you can find listings of farms opening their doors to the public this weekend at the Maine Maple Producers Association website or the Southern Maine Sugarmakers Association website.

Locally, there are a few ways you can support Maine Maple Sunday and at the same time help out a good cause.

Saturday

On Saturday, Boy Scout Troop 371 is holding a pancake breakfast and maple syrup sale from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Pathfinders Snowmobile Clubhouse, 42 Heath Road, Saco. The cost for the breakfast is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12. Scouts in uniform eat free.

Sunday

A Quebec-style breakfast will be held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday at Biddeford Middle School, 25 Tiger Drive. All proceeds will go to the Rotary Club of Biddeford-Saco to be used for service projects. The breakfast menu will include eggs, bacon and sausage, toast, home fries, cretons, pea soup, beans, tourtiere, crepes, coffee and orange juice, and of course, Maine maple syrup. Cost is $12.
