How about lunch that is affordable and helps a good cause? Sounds like a win/win, right?

The local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America is starting up for the season its Saturday Soup and Sandwich Special Fundraiser tomorrow, May 20. The fundraiser is held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturdays at 508 Elm St., Biddeford, in the basement of the American Legion Post 26.

The sandwich of the day will be a Monte Cristo sandwich, and the soup of the day will be a loaded potato soup. There are also a variety of salads, sandwiches and sides on the regular menu.

Menu items are kept at affordable prices. Salads and sandwiches are $6.50 each, soups are $4, and a soup and sandwich special costs $9. Orders can be called in ahead of time at 207-494-9287.

The Vietnam Veterans of America is a national group that is dedicated to serving the needs of Vietnam veterans and helping to improve the circumstances of Vietnam veterans and their families.

The Biddeford chapter, VVA Chapter 1044, is actively involved in the community, providing financial assistance to local veterans in need, directing veterans to resources and presenting educational lectures. The chapter also has an honor guard that conducts ceremonies honoring the deceased at the time of burial and recognizing their status as a Vietnam veteran.

WVA Chapter 1044 does not receive any state or federal funds, and the Saturday lunch program has been a long-time fundraiser for the organization.
