SACO — One of the best deals for a seafood dinner is the Lenten fish meal at Most Holy Trinity Church.

The baked haddock is always fresh and delicious, and comes with sides and a dessert for $12 for adults, and $7 for children 12 and younger. The church parishioners serving the food are always friendly, and proceeds from the dinners benefit St. James School in Biddeford. The meals are takeout only, and are available from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Most Holy Trinity parish hall, 271 Main St., Saco, on Fridays during Lent (February 24-March 31).

Lent began on Wednesday and ends Thursday, April 6. Many Maine Catholic parishes offer fish suppers and soup on Fridays as all Catholics, ages 14 and older, are bound by the law of abstinence which means refraining from the consumption of meat (land animals) on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent to unite themselves with Jesus’s sacrifice, made on Good Friday.

Check out the Roman Diocese of Portland’s website for more information on Lenten Meals in Maine.
