There’s a saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but lunch is a pretty big deal in my opinion.

First off, I’m not exactly a morning person, and sometimes can’t fully appreciate what ever it is I’m consuming with my morning coffee. I’m much more cognizant of the world around me come noon time.

Lunch for me is not just a meal. It’s time to take a break from whatever I’m doing and an excuse to relax and enjoy some time away from work. And if the food is good, it makes that time even more special.

So, speaking of lunch, who doesn’t love a good sandwich?

George’s Sandwich shop, the beloved sandwich shop that’s been around more than half a century at 37 Franklin St. in Biddeford is reopening on Wednesday, April 6. New owner Mike Clukey said customers can expect the same quality sandwiches locals have enjoyed at the shop since 1948. Hours will remain the same as under the previous ownership: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

I’ll be sure to follow up on this, so check out Saco Bay News in the next week or so for more details about George’s reopening.

There’s also buzz going around that someone connected to the previous ownership of George’s Sandwich shop will be opening a sandwich shop downtown called O.G.’s Sandwich. Could there be two places to get a classic Italian sandwich in downtown Biddeford? Am I the only one getting hungry? I’ll let you know if I hear more about this.

In Old Orchard Beach, David’s Sub Shop announced that after eight years on Ocean Park Road, it’s moving to a new location at 8 Heath St. It’ll be in the strip mall next to Family Dollar, with plenty of parking. Renovations are currently taking place and the sub shop hopes to open in the new location by May 1.

David’s Sub Shop is open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to subs, it offers lobster rolls, fresh made soups and daily specials.
