Local Flavor: Dizzy Birds to return and Mayor's Night Out
In November I reported the sad news that one of my favorite restaurants, Dizzy Birds, was closing in late December.
Dizzy Birds, 65 Main St., served rotisserie chicken and other elevated comfort food.
It’s time to turn that frown upside down because Dizzy Birds has announced that it has rebranded and will reopen this month.
According to a recent Instagram post, the new concept will be “Dizzy Birds – On the Fly.” Chicken pot pies, shepherd’s pie, Thanksgiving pot pie and other items will be available, but as takeout only. A re-opening date has not yet been announced.
Mayor’s Night Out
The Mayors of Saco and Biddeford are asking community members to dine downtown on Wednesday night to raise money for the family of a Biddeford police officer who died in a recent car accident.
Sgt. Jacob Wolterbeek, an 18-year veteran of the Biddeford Police Department, died in an accident in December on his way home at the end of his shift. He left behind his wife Julie and three young children under 5.
During Mayor’s Night Out, from 5 -9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, participating restaurants will be raising money for Wolterbeek’s family by donating a portion of the evening’s proceeds and having QR codes available for patrons to make a donation to Wolterbeek’s family through the Trooper Black Foundation. If you’re grabbing dinner that evening, you may run into Biddeford Mayor Marty Grohman, Saco Mayor Jodi MacPhail, or former Biddeford mayors Alan Casavant and Donna Dion, as they all will be visiting participating restaurants that evening.
A list of participating restaurants can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
